About Jay Ainge:

I first attended a Calligraphy Class in 2007 run by Mrs Ann Rolls (a well qualified calligrapher) through the Witham Adult Learning Centre. I transferred to a class taken by her at the Braintree Community Centre which later moved to BBCA.

I was a student with Ann until she became ill and asked me to take over the class. I did this ‘short term’ but  unfortunately Ann died in 2014. The class members wished to continue….. So here I am!

About the class:

Beginners

This class is for students with little or no experience of Calligraphy.

There are 6 different fonts or styles.. We learn one font each term using appropriate nibs and penholders. Throughout the term we will use that experience to make cards, bookmarks, books and different pieces of writing.

All the appropriate equipment may purchased at cost price in the class.

Intermediate

The members of this class have had previous experience in learning to write several different calligraphy fonts or styles. We aim to improve the calligraphy and to try different techniques, layout and design to produce beautiful pieces of work.

We share and help each other as a class and provide encouragement and inspiration for all students.
