British Sign Language (July-August 2024)

£15 per session – £120 full course to be paid upfront.

Welcome and thank you for joining this course. My name is Lindsey Barrell and I am a Wellbeing and Sensory Consultant based in Essex. I am very much looking forward to meeting you and working with you whilst we explore the fascinating topic of BSL (British Sign Language).

What is the course about?

In this course you will learn to communicate with Deaf people in BSL, at beginner level, on a range of topics using simple, everyday language.

What will we cover?

You will learn BSL communication skills relating to topic areas such as:

  • Fingerspelling
  • Handshapes
  • Numbers
  • Questions
  • Family
  • The Weather
  • Transport and travel
  • Colours
  • People and how to describe them
  • Days, months and seasons

We will also cover sensory awareness, Deaf culture and history of sign language and communication.
By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • Understand and use a basic range of simple words in BSL
  • Take part in simple conversations using BSL
  • Give and understand simple descriptions in BSL

 

The course consists of eight 75-minute sessions which will include both theory and practical elements and an opportunity to reflect and practice what we have covered in the previous sessions.

    Limited parking to the side and rear of the centre.  Wheelchair access is available at the front of the Centre.
     

    Payment

    Class fees are payable on the day at reception on arrival.  Workshop fees must be paid 2 weeks before, either in person or by phone unless otherwise stated.
