Braintree Community Centre is seeking an English/Ukrainian speaker to teach visitors from Ukraine English language skills.

The centre is a warm, modern building in the centre of Braintree, with plentiful facilities and a happy staff of paid and volunteer members.

Ideally with some teaching experience, we need someone who can attend the Centre on Friday mornings (1 hour once a month and two hours all other Fridays) and Wednesday evenings (1.5 hours). Once timings are agreed they will not be flexible.

Starting 1^st September for the duration of the term, with a possible continuation after Christmas.

Rate of pay £10.42 per hour, paid monthly.

Adminstrator

The Centre is looking for a part time administrator for one or two sessions a week, with the option of additional sessions in the future.  At least one session will be an evening session. The person needs to be friendly, helpful, have some computing skills and some flexibility as to when they can work. We expect that the person will live fairly close the Centre and have their own transport as some bookings do not finish until 10pm.

Steward

The Centre is also looking for a steward who will be able to move furniture around in a tight time slot when needed, and who additionally has some “handyman” skills to assist with minor works, especially using a ladder. Apart from furniture moving, this job is completely flexible for time.

As the new “Rule of Six” imposed by the Government has had a considerable impact on the number of bookings in the Centre, we have unfortunately had to place this position on hold for the moment.

As soon as we are able to proceed (possibly after Christmas), we will contact you and ask if you would like us to consider your application at that time.

Please note that we will be looking for someone who can do a minimum number of hours (around 6) each week but can who can do more than that with a weeks’ notice. The day/hours available may not be entirely regular, at least to start with, and will include potential hours between 8.30am and 9.30pm Monday to Saturday. In the first week or two you will be required to attend for training hours in addition to the normal rota – at your agreed rate. Hours will be paid monthly at minimum wage rate. If you cannot be this flexible, please do not proceed with your application when invited.

We believe that the position may be most suitable for someone who either has their own transport or can access public transport without difficulty. This is however a personal decision.
